Ready to deepen your understanding of EMDR therapy? Need help successfully integrating EMDR therapy into your practice? This consultation group is designed to help you:
Develop a working understanding of the EMDR therapy approach to psychotherapy
Understand case conceptualization and treatment planning through an Adaptive Information Processing lens
Explore cultural variables – including systemic racism – that need to be considered as part of any case conceptualization and treatment plan
Apply special protocols as appropriate
Stay up to date on relevant research findings
Modify the standard protocol to meet the different clinical demands of each client
Understand adaptations to developmental trauma through an attachment lens
Examine therapeutic impasses by exploring therapist’s role
Participate in an in-depth review of EMDR processing through video, audio, and transcripts of sessions
About the Facilitator
Sheryl Aaron, LICSW, is a psychotherapist in private practice in Washington, D.C., with specialties in attachment trauma and perinatal mental health. She is an EMDRIA Approved Consultant, on the faculty of The Center for Excellence in EMDR Therapy, and has completed advanced training through the Postpartum Stress Center, the Center for Healing and Imagery, and the Ferentz Institute.
Who Should Apply?
Space is limited to 8 mental health providers who have:
(1) An active independent clinical license in good standing
(2) A certificate from an EMDRIA-approved Basic Training (Levels 1 & 2)
(3) A commitment to antiracism and cultural humility in their practices
(4) An eagerness to learn about advanced applications of EMDR Therapy
(5) A willingness to be self-reflective about countertransference, implicit bias, and other issues that may arise in this work
Certification Hours: This group can be used to earn group consultation hours toward your EMDRIA certification. Please note that EMDRIA just recently issued new guidelines about earning individual consultation hours within a group format. In groups 4 and larger, no consultant can offer individual hours toward certification for the time a consultee has spent presenting in the group. All individual consultation hours will need to be earned by setting up separate individual consultation meetings with a consultant of your choice.
Attendance: To ensure the cohesiveness of the consultation group, you are asked to commit to and pay for the scheduled meetings in advance. If you must miss one of your group’s sessions, you may — with advanced notice — attend another group’s session as a makeup. No refunds will be issued for missed sessions.
